How the fare is built

What comes out here is an estimate, not a price list. The meter counts the kilometres actually driven and the minutes actually spent in traffic, so roadworks, a detour or a queue change the total. The meter is what counts, and the driver must hand you a receipt. All the official fares, item by item.

Frequently asked questions
How does the tool know whether I am inside the Aurelian Walls?
It compares the address with the line of the Aurelian Walls, rebuilt from the historic gates (Porta del Popolo, Porta Pia, Porta Maggiore, Porta San Giovanni, Porta San Paolo, Porta Portese, Porta San Pancrazio and the rest). Right up against the walls the boundary is accurate to a few dozen metres: in those cases, ask the driver before setting off.
Is the distance the real road distance?
It is an estimate: the straight-line distance plus 35% in the city (20% on long routes), which is the average ratio between road and straight line in Rome. The meter counts the actual kilometres and the time spent in traffic, which is why the answer is a range.
Why is there only one price for the airport?
Because rides between Fiumicino or Ciampino and the centre inside the Aurelian Walls, Tiburtina, Ostiense and the port of Civitavecchia have flat fares set by the city council, identical by day and by night. If the address falls outside the walls the flat fare does not apply and the tool goes back to the meter, with the €35 minimum from Fiumicino and the €80 cap inside the ring road.
